I heard somewhere on a dateline interview or something that the thing a lot of criminals fear the most when pointing a gun at someone is that they will point a gun back. That and the fact that our right to have arms being in the Constitution is why I think everyone should have guns. Plus the government can try all they want to take away guns but the people who really want them will still find ways to get them. Just look at how well we're keeping drugs and (back in prohibition days) alcohol out of the country.

My question is: how prevalent is American pop culture in the rest of the world? I'd like to hear answers from more than just Europeans if possible.

Also, if you need a good example of a wigger, go see Superbad. Mclovin is the embodiment of wiggerdom. Except normally they don't get that lucky with the ladies.

After a recent return to blazers, shirts and ties over here in the UK (the students were feeling scruffy), what I'd like to know is how much the American highschool stereotypes are based on real life. It's always been an interest of mine (American programming is prolific on our channels as the local businesses can't be bothered to make progammes) as I've always thought they were hyperbolic to the point of insanity.

Views?

Edit: American culture gets around, and is starting to creep in here. Coffee's become a big thing, more so than tea I believe.

Sometimes the ability to sue would be a good thing I guess...

But it is pretty retarded sometimes aswell. Like this example:

A guy breaks into someones house while they are away. For whatever reason, he gets stuck in the garage. Once he gets out, the guy sues the family for not having food in their garage....and he actually won.

Yea sometimes big corporations get sued for the most retarded things. Some lady supposedly found a finger in Dairy Queen. Yea right. For the most part though little things can get you sued which is sometimes a good thing sometimes simply retarded. There have been very few stupid lawsuits though but the stupid ones make the news more than the righteous ones.

Btw killing someone won't get you sued you go to jail. Suing for murder is very pointless seeing how the person will go to jail for 15+ years for 2nd degree and usually life for 1st degree.

How filing a lawsuit in America works is retarded. Basically, you can sue anyone for anything, and provided you can find a lawyer that will work for a percentage of the winnings (not to difficult), it will cost you nothing if you loose.

The sued must provide their own lawyer (if they do not defend themselves, the automatically loose), and will not be compensated for any fee's if they win the case.

Put simply, the suer pays nothing, even if they loose, and the sued pays numerous charges, even if they win, and you can sue for anything.

Like I said - it's retarded.

So to all British people:

Do you guys see us Americans as rude, impolite, lazy, sex-thirsty, obese, George Bush loving, idiots? There's a lot of anti-americanism just because of George Bush, and people insult our country right when they collect American relief dollars it's disgraceful.

I can't stand how easy it is to sue someone in America. I remember like a long time ago when some woman burned her mouth drinking McDonalds coffee. She sued them and won tons of money and required any company that sells coffee to put a warning label on the cup because she was too stupid to realize that coffee is hot. I'm always hearing that if you fall on the job (even if it was on a slippery floor with plenty of warning and it was your fault or falling off your swivel chair.) and get even minorly hurt, you can sue your employer. To me that is complete and utter BS. I would never ever sue someone if it was my fault, even if I knew I could win.

You're forgetting about the lengthy appeals process we have. In nearly all instances of bizarre and outlandish court judgments, they get reversed somewhere along the way. A justice might very well rule in favor of a particular party for the sake of making a social statement, knowing all along that it won't last. It sure as heck makes people take notice of the topic though.

That's it, I'm moving to Denmark.

And October is right, the American appeal process is incredibly long. Not only that but rulings are appealed by default now (at least to my knowledge).

some guy here (america) tried to sue god. he actually got to the supreme court for awhile. they blew it off because god had no witnesses :[

some lady sued mcdonalds because she spilt her 190 degree coffee in her lap. yes that is really hot to where it gave her 3rd degree burns. mcdonalds' CONTENTS ARE HOT thing was hidden w/ the lid on.

america is such a fun place :]
